More potential rushing milestones ahead for BYU's Williams

Scott G Winterton,

PROVO — BYU senior running back Jamaal Williams made history Friday night by becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher in the Cougars’ 28-21 double-overtime victory over Mississippi State.

But there are more potential milestones for Williams looming.

With 3,468 career yards, he needs 532 yards to become the first BYU player to reach the 4,000-yard rushing plateau. With 942 yards on the ground this season, Williams is 641 yards short of eclipsing Luke Staley’s single-season rushing record of 1,582, set in 2001 — when Staley won the Doak Walker Award, emblematic of the nation’s top running back.
