MANCHESTER — Posts on the new Manchester Police Appreciation Facebook page included a link to news story about the “Back the Blue” rally at the state Capitol Thursday, a thanks to local officers who volunteered at a veterans luncheon last year and Richard Rylander’s remembrance of his first interaction with local police.
“My earliest intro to The MPD,” Rylander wrote, “was when Officer Sam Maltempo picked me up on Main St., walking around aimlessly. I think I was 3!”
Launched less than a week ago, the page had 752 members Thursday afternoon. Manchester brothers Tom and John Topping created the public forum to support town police at a time of rising tensions around the nation following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in May.
