Manchester school officials announced Thursday they will shut down a school for one day after a student showed symptoms of COVID-19 and had close contact with a person diagnosed with the disease.
As soon as district officials learned of the symptoms and exposure of the Manchester Middle Academy student, officials notified the local health department to assess the risk of transmission within the school and the entire district, Superintendent Matt Geary wrote to the school community.
Based on health department guidance, the district will close the school on Friday for deep cleaning and disinfecting. The alternative school serves grades 5-8, about 45 students total, district spokesman Jim Farrell said.
