MANCHESTER — A regional overnight warming center opened in Manchester Thursday, temporarily filling a gap left when the local homeless shelter closed about five years ago.
The Manchester Overnight Winter Warming Center will be open from 6 p.m. until 10 a.m. seven days a week until March 31, according to a news release. Cornerstone of Vernon will manage the center, at The Community Y, 78 North Main St., on behalf of the Greater Manchester Peace and Justice Committee.
Manchester’s board of directors recently approved the planned center, which has been in the works for months. Town officials also are considering options for a longer term solution.
