Meriden police investigating armed robbery

Police said they responded to the Petrex gas station and convenience mart at 293 West Main St. about 8:30 p.m. on a report of an armed robbery.

Police said officers spoke with the store’s clerk and learned that a male had entered the store, displayed a handgun, robbed the store and fled prior to their arrival. No one was injured, police said.

Police said a suspect has been identified but declined to reveal his name because the investigation is on-going and more information is being sought by investigators.

Police said they believe the suspect is currently on parole and that it appears that his ankle bracelet monitor had been cut off prior to the robbery, and that the suspect’s parole officer has issued an order to remand him into custody.
